Stewart is a PhD student in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Duke University. Before joining the department, Stewart worked as a consultant for AECOM as an environmental engineer. He worked on soil and groundwater remediation of contaminated sites around the country using physical, chemical, and biological treatment methods. His background in environmental restoration and biological remediation led to continued interest into the research side of the field. He is now at Duke University working on bio-filters to treat odorous air related to fecal sludge management in the developing world as part of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Reinvent the Toilet Challenge.
